AHEAD OF THE CURVE

Being a pioneer is no bed of roses.

People who lack your vision ridicule you. Skeptics howl and hiss. The unwashed masses jeer.

But if you believe in yourself, eventually you can turn those skeptical, hooting grins upside-down.

Submitted for your approval, this photograph from last Friday’s Atlanta Journal-Constitution, depicting the Brothers Rathbun:

The Rathbun Brothers

Kevin is well-known in Atlanta as the proprietor of several center-city culinary hotspots: Rathbun’s, the new Kevin Rathbun Steak, and Krog Bar. At various times in his career, he has worked at Brennan’s of Houston and at Commander’s Palace in New Orleans under famed stovewhore Emeril Lagasse.

And here he and his brother are, pitching an upcoming appearance on “Iron Chef” by wearing a wok and a conical strainer, respectively, on their cheffy little heads. A vindication, of sorts, for the vision of a Lonely Pioneer...

But just remember, you saw it here first!

And you may just see it again...

China Cap Chapeau

That thing on my head is not a mere colander - it is a China Cap, AKA chinoise, used for straining fine sauces and the like. Even more effective - and alluring - than the standard Tinfoil Hat.
