The Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports that

Several photos published Tuesday showed Spears driving her SUV in Malibu, Calif., with son, Sean Preston, on her lap, rather than strapped into a car seat in the back. Spears said she did it because of a “horrifying, frightful encounter with the paparazzi.”

The photos show Spears holding the wheel of the car with one hand, and her 5-month-old baby in the other. A person is shown sitting in the passenger seat next to Spears.

Interesting. Spears blamed “aggressive paparazzi” for forcing her to drive off with the child in her lap in order to “get out of harm’s way.”

“I love my child and would do anything to protect him,” she said.

Well, almost anything. Except for maybe making sure that little Sean didn’t become a Supplementary Air-Bag Enhancement Device if some drunkard on the Pacific Coast Highway happened to veer across the double yellow line.



On the other hand, Michael Jackson dangled his son because he wanted to give the paparazzi a show.

It’s all about the paparazzi, I guess.

Personally, I think you’re dealing with a couple of musically talented individuals – OK, one musically talented individual and one mildly talented but musically uninteresting individual who looks like the Girl Next Door (if the Girl Next Door lived in a trailer park and gave out $5 handjobs) – who don’t have two brain cells to rub together between ’em in the Common Sense department. But you don’t need a license or a passing grade on an IQ test to reproduce, more’s the pity.

And that’s where our friend Darwin comes in, elucidating the laws of natural selection. Too bad the kids pay the penalty if their parents run afoul of those laws.
